Aims
Reduce food waste for incineration by upcycling into useful products using Black Soldier Flies.
Background
High food waste from SGH kitchens (639,553 tonnes annually).
Methods
DMAIC approach: Segregation, microbes treatment, transportation, and upcycling off-site into fertiliser and feed.
Results
Reduction of waste; 34,502kg of clean food waste upcycled. Estimated food waste generated: 763,190kg.
Conclusion
Reduction in general waste disposal; promotes circular economy and sustainability.
