About this Content
Aims
To describe the prevalence and components of frailty and the association of HRQoL with frailty among older adults with multimorbidity in primary care.
Background
Frailty and multimorbidity are related syndromes with increased mortality, hospitalization, disability, and healthcare utilization. Patients with both conditions are at higher clinical complexity and care burden.
Methods
Post-hoc analysis of data from an original study involving 180 elderly polyclinic patients aged 65 years and older with multimorbidity. Frailty was assessed using the FRAIL scale, and outcomes included HRQoL and depressive symptoms.
Results
Most patients showed issues with FRAIL domains like resistance, ambulation, and weight loss, confirming the need for targeted screening and interventions.
Conclusion
Frailty screening and multimodal interventions are needed to improve outcomes in this population. Larger studies are required to confirm findings.
Lessons Learnt
Better frailty screening in primary care is necessary, focusing on resistance exercises and nutrition.
