Background
The Foot Care and Limb Design Centre's (FLC) on-site store managed approximately 1,300 items with inefficiencies in storage, tracking, and stock management.
Methods
Used Value Stream Mapping to identify gaps; implemented 6S methodology and a Microsoft Access inventory system for organization and tracking; adopted contracts and par-level prompts.
Results
Reduced item retrieval time by 76% (105 sec to 25 sec); stock count time by 60% (15 hours to 6 hours); holding costs by 34%; turnaround time from 12 weeks to 2 weeks.
Conclusion
Success highlights the scalability of a user-driven inventory system across other hospital departments.
Lessons Learnt
Ergonomic improvements and streamlined workflows significantly boost efficiency and staff satisfaction.
