About this Content
Aims
Our objective was to enhance the endoscope decontamination process by upgrading the decontamination room. With this, we hope to achieve greater standardization in our processes and close the gap in the track and traceability of the endoscope decontamination process.
Background
Reprocessing takes place at the endoscope decontamination sink. Several areas for improvement in reprocessing were identified.
Methods
The interventions aimed to improve the endoscope decontamination room with emphasis on proper body mechanics and ease of access to essential reprocessing devices. This included the implementation of a hydraulic sink, redesign of the sink, Veriscan auto endoscope leak tester, and Scope Buddy Plus.
Results
The improvements have enhanced the endoscope decontamination process through minimizing the risk of workplace injury, achieving standardization and accuracy through automation, and facilitating data retrieval for track and trace purposes. Improved water conservation was also noted.
Conclusion
The improvements in the endoscope decontamination room have enhanced the process through minimizing the risk of workplace injury, achieving standardization and accuracy through automation, and facilitating data retrieval for track and trace purposes.
Lessons Learnt
By prioritizing the needs of the staff, a sustainable workforce can be built. Proper ergonomics and automation reduce workplace injuries and improve efficiency.
