Aims

Background
ESOD patients face challenges with cost-effective care and quality of life, requiring integration of palliative care.
Methods
Retrospective cohort analysis using coarsened exact matching (CEM) and propensity score matching (PSM) to compare outcomes of patients with palliative care support to those without.
Results
Palliative care reduced ED visits, inpatient admissions, and hospital costs, with the greatest benefits observed 1-6 months before death.
Conclusion
Palliative care effectively reduces resource usage and improves patient outcomes when integrated early into care plans.
Lessons Learnt
Early referrals to palliative care significantly improve healthcare utilization outcomes and reduce end-of-life medical burdens.
