Aims
To leverage artificial intelligence to diagnose COVID-19 pneumonia on CXR, prioritizing positive cases for urgent radiologist review.
Background
During COVID-19, NCID became the national screening facility for COVID-19 cases, causing a surge in CXR demand (500+ daily) and straining manpower. Residents lacked training to interpret CXRs independently.
Methods
Worked with A*STAR to create RadiLogic, an AI model analyzing CXRs within 3 seconds with 96% accuracy. The AI system was integrated into clinical workflows with secure architecture.
Results
Reduced CXR turnaround time by 20%. AI diagnostic accuracy remained at 96%. False positives reduced. Junior residents reported increased diagnostic confidence and productivity.
Conclusion
RadiLogic successfully reduced diagnostic delays and supported radiology workflows during COVID-19 surges.
Lessons Learnt
Collaboration, trust, and readiness across institutions were crucial. AI innovation requires agility to pivot solutions to clinical needs and technical constraints.
