About this Content
Aims
To evaluate the effectiveness of mindfulness-based interventions (MBI) delivered virtually compared to therapist-led delivery in peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients.
Background
The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted a need for remote delivery of MBIs to support PD patients’ mental health while ensuring accessibility and safety.
Methods
Conducted a 3-arm randomized controlled trial (RCT): Virtual Mindfulness Therapy (VAMT), Therapist-Assisted Mindfulness Therapy (TAMT), and Treatment-As-Usual (TAU). Anxiety, stress, and self-efficacy were measured at baseline and week 12.
Results
Both TAMT and VAMT groups showed significant reductions in stress and anxiety by week 12, with VAMT outcomes comparable to TAMT.
Conclusion
Remote delivery of MBIs is effective for PD patients, supporting mental health without compromising outcomes.
Lessons Learnt
Virtual mindfulness interventions (VAMT) can achieve similar therapeutic effects as therapist-assisted methods, making it a viable, cost-effective alternative.
