About this Content
Aims
To evaluate the effectiveness of the 12-week Gym Tonic program in improving muscle strength and physical function for older adults.
Background
Resistance training benefits older adults but its scalability in community settings was not previously studied.
Methods
Conducted a 12-week randomized controlled trial at senior centers using pneumatic resistance training machines.
Results
Increased muscle strength by 11-26%; improved gait speed by 7%; high adherence rates (~90%).
Conclusion
Gym Tonic can be successfully scaled and implemented to improve physical health among older adults in the community.
Lessons Learnt
Collaboration with community partners and effective stakeholder coordination ensure scalability.
