About this Content
Aims
Determine effective disinfection methods for protective devices used during SARS-CoV2 treatments.
Background
PPE reuse challenges during COVID-19 due to global supply disruptions. CSSU transitioned from routine instrument reprocessing to managing PAPR masks.
Methods
Conducted comparison between alcohol-based surface cleaning and thermal disinfection methods. Developed comprehensive management protocols for PAPRs.
Results
Thermal disinfection emerged as the most effective cleaning method, with RLUs reduced significantly. Improved PPE traceability and inventory management systems.
Conclusion
Recommended thermal disinfection with specific cycles ensures PPE safety and usability. Built confidence among staff and ensured consistent supply of clean equipment.
Lessons Learnt
Thermal disinfection maintained PAPR integrity across multiple cycles, supporting sustainable PPE usage. Challenges include validating mask functionality per cycle.
