Aims
To reduce bed waiting times at ED and increase efficiency for inpatient discharges.
Background
Delayed discharges caused bottlenecks in ED and limited bed availability for new admissions.
Methods
Communicated changes to discharge times via staff briefings, FAQs, EDMs, posters, and patient notifications in multiple languages.
Results
Increased discharges before noon from 7.5% to 24.7%. Available weekday beds before 12 PM rose from 200 to 600 monthly, saving 270 wait hours.
Conclusion
Clear communication and collaboration are pivotal to successful change management in inpatient discharge processes.
Lessons Learnt
Detailed communication and feedback from staff and patients enable smoother implementation of discharge changes.
