About this Content
Aims
Determine the effectiveness of a diet and lifestyle intervention using the nBuddy Diabetes app with in-app dietitian coaching for weight and glycemic management in Asian type 2 diabetes patients.
Background
Medical nutrition therapy promotes weight loss, essential for type 2 diabetes management, but traditional methods are labor-intensive and face high attrition. Smartphone apps like nBuddy Diabetes offer a viable alternative.
Methods
A parallel multicenter 2-group RCT with randomized allocation for type 2 diabetes patients using the nBuddy Diabetes app for 6 months in Singapore.
Results
Intervention led to significant weight and glycemic control improvements, with a reduction in diabetes medication costs and intake.
Conclusion
Smartphone-based lifestyle interventions improve weight and glycemic control, supporting mobile health usage in chronic care.
Lessons Learnt
Mobile apps can potentially replace face-to-face interactions, reducing costs and enhancing patient empowerment.
