To deploy antimicrobial and sporicidal disposable curtains in A&E, Peri-Op, and SOC areas to reduce infection risks and staff injuries.
Background
Increased curtain changing frequency during the COVID-19 pandemic and manual handling risks for staff.
Methods
Deployed antimicrobial and sporicidal disposable curtains to replace reusable curtains, reducing the need for frequent changes and manual handling.
Results
Reduced curtain changing frequency by 49%, saving 2,578 man-hours. Achieved a 91% reduction in workload by Q1 2022, while no nosocomial infections occurred.
Conclusion
The new disposable curtains improved infection control and staff safety, leading to significant operational cost savings.
Lessons Learnt
Key lessons include involving staff in the process and ensuring proper training for deployment.
