Background
Long LOS for hip fracture patients increases costs, mortality, and hospital-acquired infections.
Methods
Discharge planning from Day 1, POD1 rehabilitation goals, and bed availability tracking.
Results
Mean LOS reduced to 9.6 days; percentage of patients with LOS ≤10 days increased to 68%; projected cost savings of $834,725 annually.
Conclusion
Fast-Track pilot program successfully improved LOS and care quality for hip fracture patients.
Lessons Learnt
Early planning, coordinated discharge, and public education improve LOS outcomes.
Additional Information
Fast-Track pilot with St. Luke's Hospital resulted in significant savings and improved care.
