Aims
To reduce the usage of AAMI Level IV gowns in Ward B13 and achieve 50% cost reduction by using AAMI Level II gowns.
Background
High usage of AAMI Level IV gowns in Ward B13 resulted in excessive costs, especially during terminal cleaning procedures.
Methods
Introduced alternative Level II gowns, reviewed PPE selection workflows, and conducted educational sessions.
Results
Reduced gown costs from SGD 2,940 to SGD 1,180 annually; gown usage decreased by 73.5%.
Conclusion
Switching to alternative gowns maintained infection control standards while reducing costs significantly.
Lessons Learnt
Regularly sourcing cost-effective alternatives is vital for sustained cost management and operational efficiency.
