About this Content
Aims
Recycle food waste to reduce landfill usage and minimize environmental impact, while improving work efficiency for housekeeping staff.
Background
CGH generates an average of 0.6 tonnes of food waste daily. Traditional waste disposal methods were inefficient, caused odor pollution, and required significant manpower effort.
Methods
Installed a food digester system that converts food waste into non-potable water for floor cleaning and bin washing. Enzymes were added to accelerate decomposition.
Results
Reduced general waste output by 8% (from 7.6 to 7.0 tonnes daily). Housekeeping manpower for waste disposal decreased by 75%, with each disposal cycle reducing from 30 minutes to 15 minutes.
Conclusion
The food digester system effectively minimizes food waste, reduces labor intensity, and aligns with national recycling initiatives.
Lessons Learnt
Automated food waste recycling improves efficiency and workplace ergonomics while supporting sustainability goals.
