About this Content
Aims
Mitigate financial losses from uncharged consumables mainly diapers and wet wipes, improve charging efficiency, and implement a tracking system for the distribution of diapers and wet wipes
Background
Before the implementation of the project, the department incurred significant losses from missed charges, with key contributors being financial losses from uncharged consumables, mainly diapers and wet wipes, which were the department's highest revenue leakage.
Methods
A team was formed to evaluate the process by implementing the PDSA (Plan Do Study Act)model. Items were strictly controlled and stored in a designated area for easy tracking. A manual log was introduced to track item distribution, recorded by staff but charged by the assigned Charge Nurse after every shift. Night shift Charge Nurse updated the daily log.
Results
Achieved a 64% reduction in department revenue loss in 6 months (from $14,608 to$5,241). Enhanced inventory tracking and accountability reduced financial losses and improved staff efficiency in charging.
Conclusion
The project aligns with the YH’s Onward 2026 foundation, enhancing charging efficiency and resource accountability to boost operational reliability.
Lessons Learnt
Regular feedback fosters staff engagement and continuous improvement. Senior nursing management support inspired the team’s commitment and enthusiasm throughout the project. Staff adherence to the new logging system improves billing accuracy and accountability.
