Aims
To enhance patient care and improve staff well-being in wards D48 and D108.
Background
Partnering with the Ministry of Health (MOH) Singapore Health Corp to provide trained volunteers to enhance patient care.
Methods
Implemented support from MOH trained volunteers to assist in tasks such as assisted feeding, mealtimes support, meal ordering, changing linen, patient engagement, and ferrying patients.
Results
Increased support, enhanced patient interaction, resource optimization, improved patient hospitalization experience and psychological well-being, enhanced patient safety, improved patient's nutritional status, and potential cost savings exceeding $38,000.
Conclusion
Trained volunteers provide increased support, enhanced patient interaction, resource optimization, and potential cost savings.
Lessons Learnt
Volunteers play a crucial role in enhancing patient safety and reducing the workload on hospital staff.
Additional Information
Volunteers contributed over 2,300 hours, equivalent to more than 90 workdays, creating a safer and more supportive environment for patients
