About this Content
Aims
To collect detailed data enabling hospitals to benchmark the quality of surgical programs, enhancing outcomes and cost-effectiveness in colorectal surgery.
Background
SGH joined the ACS NSQIP program to benchmark colorectal surgery outcomes, improve surgical quality, and implement Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) pathways.
Methods
Analysis of clinical indicators and cost data; data visualization through dashboards; benchmarking against international standards; performance assessment of surgeons and outcomes.
Results
ERAS significantly reduced post-operative length of stay (LOS) and costs by $1,163,456. Quality indicators highlighted inter-surgeon variations, enabling targeted improvements.
Conclusion
The NSQIP and ERAS frameworks provide actionable insights into surgical performance and cost-effectiveness. Benchmarking identifies best practices for standardized outcomes.
Lessons Learnt
Value-driven care programs effectively identify cost drivers and quality gaps, fostering evidence-based improvements in surgical protocols and outcomes.
Keywords
