About this Content
Aims
To increase the percentage of timely discharge amongst same-day-discharge (SDD) patients from a median of 29% to 80% over a sustained period in the invasive cardiac laboratory.
Background
There was no standardized discharge workflow for doctors and nurses, and doctors were not always available to review and discharge patients.
Methods
Standardization of discharge workflow and implementation of nurse-led same-day discharge.
Results
The percentage of patients discharged on time increased from a pre-intervention median of 26% to a post-intervention median of 83%.
Conclusion
The interventions led to significant improvements in timely discharges, but ongoing monitoring and reinforcement are necessary.
Lessons Learnt
Standardized workflow required constant reinforcement and feedback. Data gathering for delayed discharge times was tedious and may limit sustainability.
