About this Content
Aims
The aim of this project is to capture at least 80% of PROM for outpatient pain patients over 6 months using the EQ5D-3L questionnaire at every clinic visit.
Background
The Pain Management Clinic currently uses the Brief Pain Inventory (BPI) as the Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROM) to monitor patients' pain and functional outcomes. However, patients find BPI time-consuming, resulting in a median of 50% completion rate. Without follow-up outcomes, it is difficult to trend patients pain outcomes and assess the efficacy of treatment provided.
Methods
EQ5D-3L was introduced as the new PROM tool for every outpatient visit. Digital EQ5D-3L forms were created in 4 languages via FormSG QR code for patients to complete before each clinic consultation. The number of completed forms was compared to the number of actualized patient visits per day using patient identifiers.
Results
The introduction of the digital EQ5D-3L questionnaire successfully increased the median monthly percentage of completed PROMs to 89% using EQ5D-3L from the baseline of 50% using BPI. The initiative was expanded to the Acupuncture Centre, successfully achieving 83.8% of completed EQ5D-3L forms.
Conclusion
Project IMPROVE has proven to achieve successful collection of PROM data at every patient visit, thereby allowing the trending of patients pain outcomes.
Lessons Learnt
The use of QR codes facilitated the digital transcription of patients responses onto the electronic database, saving time spent on manual transcription and providing longitudinal data to track patients progress.
