Aims
To increase the percentage of patients admitted under RCCM who are discharged to home on LTOT who demonstrate adequate compliance from 56.3% to 80% over the next 6 months.
Background
Long-term oxygen therapy is an established treatment to prolong survival among patients with chronic, severe resting hypoxemia.
Methods
Standardize the way of providing prescription to the patient using Epic Smartphrase and ensure that Epic Smartphrase for Home O2 prescription is in the discharge summary.
Results
Compliance increased from a pre-intervention median of 56.3% to a post-intervention median of 88.9%.
Conclusion
The intervention was successful in increasing compliance with LTOT.
Lessons Learnt
Incorporate the education of rotating junior staff at department orientation meetings and organize roadshows to reinforce the use of Epic Smartphrase.
