About this Content
Aims
This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness, safety, and value of the pharmacist-led teleconsultation service for male patients with stable androgenetic alopecia (AGA).
Background
In 2023, the National Skin Centre implemented a pharmacist-led teleconsultation service for male patients with stable AGA. During teleconsultation, pharmacists screen for red flags and drug-related problems (DRPs), with established protocols for escalation to supervising doctors when necessary.
Methods
A retrospective observational study was conducted on male patients with stable AGA receiving pharmacist teleconsultation from September 2023 to May 2025.
Results
13 DRPs were identified, with three patients (5.17% of all patients) requiring escalations to a dermatologist. Differences in manpower cost per patient were $13.23, direct cost savings were $80.74 per visit, and time savings were 55.3 minutes per patient. 58 patients were analyzed for the study.
Conclusion
This new care model achieved significant cost and time efficiencies while maintaining appropriate clinical oversight, supporting sustainable healthcare delivery through optimal resource utilization.
Lessons Learnt
The pharmacist-led teleconsultation demonstrated successful right-siting of care with a low escalation rate of 5.17%, indicating safe and effective management of stable AGA patients.
