About this Content
Aims
To address alarm fatigue and improve patient outcomes by implementing Tele-NIV (Remote monitoring) for centralized monitoring and rapid response.
Background
The institution reported 58 alarm-related adverse patient events from NIV, with 12 resulting in ICU readmissions between 2019 and 2021. Preventable adverse events like hypoxia and hypercapnia highlight the need for appropriate use of limited ICU beds.
Methods
The study involved 51 nurses from July to December 2024. It included a survey with 25 Likert-scale questions using the Technology Acceptance Model and a clinical evaluation to compare ICU readmission and hospital length of stay.
Results
The implementation of Tele-NIV showed potential to improve staff satisfaction and patient care, reduce length of stay and ICU admissions, optimize resource utilization, and potentially reduce healthcare costs.
Conclusion
Tele-NIV exemplifies effective health technology adoption, aligning with value-based care principles, enhancing care integration, reducing ICU readmissions, and optimizing resource utilization.
Lessons Learnt
The implementation of Tele-NIV showed potential to improve staff satisfaction and patient care, reduce length of stay and ICU admissions, optimize resource utilization, and potentially reduce healthcare costs.
