About this Content
Aims
To automate the process of outcome evaluation using EMR for rehabilitation departments in 6 months and encourage outcome use in patient care.
Background
Manual evaluation of rehabilitation outcomes (Modified Barthel Index) was time-consuming and labor-intensive, requiring therapists to calculate data manually for a small patient sample.
Methods
Implemented EMR automation to replace manual calculations, eliminate sampling, and enable outcome entry into patient records. Conducted pilot testing and monitored time savings.
Results
Reduced time spent on evaluation from 30 hours to 1 hour per month. Increased use of outcomes in patient care by therapists to 77%. Improved institutional-level data analysis.
Conclusion
EMR automation streamlined outcome evaluation, saving time, improving accuracy, and increasing patient care use. Scaled for broader application.
Lessons Learnt
Early stakeholder engagement and demonstrating meaningful data impact accelerated adoption. Technology facilitated behavior change when teams were committed.
Additional Information
Significant time and resource savings achieved. Ongoing monitoring ensures sustained benefits.
