About this Content
Aims
Improve care escalation for deteriorating patients in General Wards (GW) and reduce unplanned ICU admissions through automated alerts and ICU outreach nursing (ICUORN).
Background
Patients in GW were at risk of deterioration, with low compliance in timely care escalation, leading to poor outcomes like unplanned ICU admissions and cardiac arrest.
Methods
Implemented the Automated Code Red Alert (ACRA) system to trigger alerts for deteriorating patients, coupled with ICUORN service for prompt care escalation.
Results
Achieved 100% compliance in escalating care, reduced in-hospital cardiac arrest (IHCA) rates, and decreased unplanned ICU admissions to 8%.
Conclusion
The ACRA system improved patient safety by reducing unplanned ICU admissions, cardiac arrests, and healthcare costs through efficient intervention.
Lessons Learnt
Leveraging smart technology like ACRA and upskilling ICUORN staff ensured timely care escalation, resulting in improved patient safety.
