About this Content
Aims
To investigate the associations between aspects of parental bonding and health-related quality of life among youths with mental health conditions.
Background
Parenting affects symptomology and quality of life. Few studies have examined this relationship in a clinical population.
Methods
Multi-variable linear regression analysis was used to examine the association between parenting factors and HRQoL, controlling for socio-demographic variables and depressive symptoms.
Results
Higher parental care was positively associated with mental health functioning. Vulnerable populations showed improved outcomes with positive parenting.
Conclusion
Parental care positively influences mental health functioning in youths with clinical conditions. Sexual minorities face additional risks.
Lessons Learnt
Interventions should emphasize parental education and positive parenting practices to enhance parent-child relationships and youth mental health.
