About this Content
Aims
To apply IT in the operation management of the Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD).
Background
Manual CSSD processes caused inefficiencies and lacked traceability, leading to suboptimal patient safety and resource usage.
Methods
Implemented IT to computerize all nine reprocessing steps in the CSSD workflow, utilized PDCA cycles, and introduced barcode labeling.
Results
Reduced data entry time by nearly 50%, saving 2,184 staff hours annually; 100% of the reprocessing steps are now computerized, improving patient safety and traceability.
Conclusion
The IT application significantly improved workflow efficiency, patient safety, and alignment with international CSSD standards.
Lessons Learnt
Collaboration among multidisciplinary teams enhances IT adoption and improves operational workflows.
