Aims
Create painted immobilization masks for pediatric patients undergoing radiation therapy to reduce fear and anxiety.
Background
Radiation therapy is essential but causes significant anxiety in pediatric patients, leading to reliance on general anesthesia (GA).
Methods
Conducted tests on radiation absorption of painted masks, created cartoon designs, and surveyed therapists for feasibility.
Results
Masks effectively alleviated patient anxiety without affecting radiation absorption; acceptance among therapists was high.
Conclusion
Painted masks improve pediatric patient experiences during radiation therapy and reduce GA dependence, aligning with patient-centered care.
Lessons Learnt
Multidisciplinary teamwork and creative approaches can significantly enhance patient experience and compliance.
