About this Content
Aims
Develop an automated ureteric stent tracing system (TRACER) to ensure timely and comprehensive tracking.
Background
Ureteric stents require timely removal to prevent complications. The manual tracking system was laborious and error-prone.
Methods
Implemented TRACER using a dual-prong approach via T-DOC instrument tracking and EMR documentation. Integrated data uploads into REDCAP for automated reminders.
Results
All 314 ureteric stents were accurately tracked. Time for data entry reduced from 4 minutes to 30 seconds, achieving 87.5% savings in manpower hours.
Conclusion
TRACER is scalable for other medical implants and will soon be implemented in interventional radiology.
Lessons Learnt
Automation reduces missed stent removals, ensuring improved patient safety and operational efficiency.
