About this Content
Aims
Establish an in-house Medical 3D Printing Centre to streamline 3D printing adoption for clinical use, enhancing efficiency, accessibility, and patient care.
Background
Prior to the center's establishment, 3D printing needs were outsourced, leading to high costs, long turnaround times, and data security concerns. Clinicians struggled with translating medical concepts into 3D models due to lack of expertise.
Methods
Centralized 3D printing resources into a dedicated facility, providing infrastructure, governance, and technical expertise to streamline medical 3D printing for clinical applications.
Results
Turnaround time reduced from 1-2 weeks to 1-2 days. 3D printing workload increased to 262 prints annually. Expanded applications include anatomical models, surgical jigs, prostheses, and educational trainers.
Conclusion
The Medical 3D Printing Centre successfully advanced 3D printing applications in TTSH, improving surgical planning and patient education. Future expansion will focus on new medical applications and broader adoption.
Lessons Learnt
A dedicated 3D printing facility improves access, standardizes governance, and enhances patient care by enabling rapid prototyping and customization.
