About this Content
Aims
Evaluate the effectiveness of the Bergen 4-Day Treatment (B4DT) for OCD in Singapore.
Background
OCD is a debilitating disorder affecting 2-3% of the global population. Traditional Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) has high drop-out rates. B4DT is a brief but intensive therapy with promising results in Western countries but has not been studied in Asia.
Methods
43 patients underwent B4DT in an outpatient setting at IMH, trained by Norwegian B4DT specialists. Patients were assessed at pre-treatment, post-treatment, and 3-month follow-ups.
Results
63% of patients had >35% symptom reduction at 10 days, with a dropout rate of less than 2%. Quality of life, anxiety, and depressive symptoms improved. 99% of patients were satisfied with the treatment.
Conclusion
B4DT is highly effective and well-accepted in Singapore. IMH aims to become a training center for B4DT therapists in Asia.
Lessons Learnt
Intensive 4-day therapy overcomes challenges such as high drop-out rates and logistical barriers.
