Long wait times and high costs for diagnosing chest pain led to inefficiencies and overcrowding.
Methods
Implemented a nurse-led, cardiologist-supervised clinic with single-visit diagnosis combining tests and consultation.
Results
Cost savings per patient were $371 for polyclinic referrals and $754 for emergency department patients.
Conclusion
Rapid Access Chest Pain Clinics are scalable solutions for cost savings and timely diagnosis.
Lessons Learnt
A nurse-led, cardiologist-supervised model is cost-effective, improves patient experience, and reduces time to diagnosis.
Additional Information
Expanded clinic setup planned for other polyclinics in 2019.
